Planning Your Curriculum

Some subjects will contain both a textbook and a study guide. Other subjects will utilize a special workbook and possibly an additional study guide.

All lessons will include instructions explaining how the subject is organized and may contain information on assignments found in the textbooks. Study materials will include examinations you will need to complete and submit to the School. A study guide is a special study aid to give you suggestions and step-by-step directions for completing the subject.

The textbooks provided by the School are acquired from the best and largest publishers of schoolbooks. Each subject will come with its own set of instructions for test taking.

Step 1: Upon enrolling in First Coast Academy, you will receive the Students' Initial Supply Packet. Your initial supply packet contains start-up supplies you will use throughout your program. It's important for the student to verify the content of the supply packet to be sure all of the items have been included:

  • Welcome Letter-Contains a list of everything included in your packet and reveals your Student ID Number.
  • Student ID Card-Contains your Student ID Number.
  • Enrollment Agreement-Showing your acceptance to the School.
  • Transcript Request Form
  • Preaddressed Return Envelope
  • Copy of Tuition Schedule
  • Student Number-You will notice your student number is printed on your Student ID Card and on mailing labels when you receive lesson shipments. This number is very important. Always write your student number on all correspondence, examination answer sheets, forms, and payments sent to the School.
  • Mastering Study Skills-Required first lesson for all students.

Step 2: Examinations and Grading-Upon completion of a lesson, the Student will be required to complete a written exam. All exams will use the standard work sheet provided by the School with instructions printed at the top.

  • Open-Book Tests-All unit test and final examinations are open-book. Students are required to take all of the unit tests before being issued a final exam. Each test is graded, the grade recorded, and the corrected test answer sheet is returned to the student with comments by the teacher.

Step 3: Submitting Exam Answer Sheets-The Student should mail each examination to the School as soon as completed. After successful completion of all exams, the next lesson will be shipped in two business days.

Students are instructed to write their Student ID Number on the front of the envelope and on the answer sheet prior to submitting. This assists us in instantly determining the correct student to issue credit. Otherwise, the test may be returned ungraded. The student should allow adequate time for mail delivery.

  • Faxing Exam Answer Sheets-If you desire to fax in your exams, please fax to 904-381-0135.

Step 4: Lost Test-Student should always make copies of their test answers before sending their tests to the School. This will save much time and effort should a test be lost in transit. The School cannot be responsible for tests lost in transit. It is the responsibility of the student to provide documentation for any missing tests or scores.

Test Grading System

Each exam is given personal review and consideration by the student's teacher who offers positive, constructive, individual, and specific remarks, and instruction. The School utilizes a numerical grading system. The minimum passing grade is 70%. A grade lower than the passing grade is designated as failed.
